Maria Moisá studied law and history in Argentina before coming to England in 1966, where she lectured on medieval social history at the former Leeds Polytechnic until her retirement.

Her own research has been concerned with the rural poor, and she took her doctorate in history at Birmingham University (1996). Her work has been published in Past and Present, Medieval Life, Food and Foodways, Medieval Yorkshire, and Petit Propos Cuilinaires as well as in Culture, Ideology and Politics: Essays for Eric Hobsbawm   R. Samuel and G. Steadman Jones, editors (London: 1983).
